Sun, sand and crystal clear ocean waters…
A week in the Caribbean was just what the doctor ordered. I got away from the cold gloom of an Illinois winter and had a chance to refocus last week. I had no agenda, aside from total relaxation, and what do you know…I achieved that goal. There’s just something about digging my toes into warm sand, it’s restorative. I was able to take a figurative, and literal, deep breath and just relax.
Now that I’m back in the land of snow and freezing rain, I feel much more equipped to handle the rest of winter without huddling under the covers and hiding for the next several weeks. My creativity has been spurred, and the writing is flowing like crazy – it’s so wonderful. I have a huge to-do list, and I’m fairly certain that I’ll actually be able to get through it without drowning or becoming a total hermit.
What did I learn from this experience? It’s okay to get away for a while, even if it just means taking a bubble bath. In fact, it’s more than okay, it’s necessary. We all need a chance to power down and get back in touch with who we are, and why we do what we do. I absolutely love writing, and I hate to admit it, but with as hard as I’ve been pushing myself, I’d begun to look at it as a bit of a chore. Now, my love for it has returned and my appreciation of just how lucky I am to be able to do what I love has given me a new perspective.
I am so excited about what this year will bring, and I’m ready to face it head on. My wish for all of you is that you’re able to take stolen moments for yourself and treat yourself with relaxation, even if it’s only for a few minutes a day. It can be a sanity saver in this fast-paced world.
Peace my friends, in every sense of the word.
